The following are a representation of the claims which I have investigated since the conception of Chapter House Engineering Consultants over a period of eighteen years.

Central Networks East plc v Integrated Utilities Services Limited (1) and Murphy Limited (2)

This claim was heard in the High Court of Justice, Queens Bench Division Technology and Construction Birmingham District Registry, where I was appointed by the legal advisers representing Central Networks East plc. This case related to damage caused to 132 kV underground cables during the installation of earth rods. The judgement was awarded to Central Networks plc and quantum was apportioned between the Defendants.

Telewest Limited – v – Yorkshire Electricity Distribution plc

This claim was heard in the High Court of Justice, Queens Bench Division Technology and Construction Leeds District Registry, where I was appointed by the legal advisers representing Telewest Limited. This case related to the positioning of telecommunication ducting in proximity to electricity cables and the costs associated with the repair of the telecommunication ducting. The judgement was awarded to Telewest Limited and went to appeal where the judgement was upheld.

British Telecommunications plc – v – Powergen plc (formerly Central Networks plc and now Western Power Distribution plc) and National Grid Gas plc

I was appointed by the Solicitors representing British Telecommunications plc and carried out an on-site forensic investigation. This was claim related to damage to a Telecommunication apparatus contained in a steel duct where arcing took place between adjacent metallic pipes which resulted from the passage of earth fault current from a damaged low voltage underground cable. This matter was settled out of Court where the Defendants agreed an apportionment of the costs.

Yorkshire Electricity plc v Bradford Metropolitan Council

In this instance I was appointed by the Claimant, and monitored the on site activities and the forensic analysis carried out during the progression of the remedial activities. This incident occurred when a grass cutting machine collided with a pillar containing monitoring equipment associated with two parallel 132 kV volt circuits resulting in the failure of joints and cable in both circuits at an at risk value in the region of £500k .

24 Seven Utility Services Limited v McNicholas plc and ABB Power T & D Limited and Broadoak Construction Services Limited

I was appointed by the Solicitors representing the three defendants and carried out an on-site forensic investigation. This was claim relating to damage to a 132 kV volt underground cable and associated pilot cable which resulted in a fire, personnel injury, a switchgear failure, resulting in a significant disruption of the electricity supply in Central London. The estimated figure for recovery was in the region of £200k.

British Telecommunications v Lemmeleg Building and Contracting Limited
I was appointed by the Defendant's Solicitors to investigate quantum relating to a claim represented a major incident on BT's telecommunication networks where a significant loss of service resulted at an estimated invoiced cost of £380k.

H W Martin Holdings Limited – v – Amey Rail Limited
This claim related to damage to GPU Power UK Underground 132 kV Fluid Filled Cable which has been the subject of joint consultation.

Central Networks West plc - v – Colt Telecommunications plc & McNicholas Construction Services Limited & DDC Civil Engineering in administration
I was appointed by the Claimant where the equipment damaged in this instance was a fluid filled 132 kV transmission cable where the at risk value was in the region of £300k and was settled out of Court.

Mrs Sandra Pike – v – (1) Scottish & Southern Energy plc & (2) Bracknell Forest Council
I was appointed by the Claimant's Solicitors to advise on causation and liability where a fire and an explosion originated from the electricity and gas supply input locations in a domestic premises. The Claimant agreed an out of Court settlement.

Mrs Veronica McQueen and & Mr & Mrs Maley – v – (1) Central Networks West plc & (2) National Grid Gas & (3) AMEC Limited
I was appointed by the Defendant's Solicitors to advise on causation and liability where a fire and an explosion originated from the electricity and gas installations adjacent to domestic premises. The Claimants agreed an out of Court settlement.

Scottish & Southern Energy plc – v – Veolia Water Central Limited
I was appointed by the Defendant's Solicitors to advise on quantum and causation where a 132 kV transmission cable suffered damage and consequential damage resulted from a significant ingress of water and cable replacement. The Claimant agreed an out of Court settlement.

Yorkshire Electricity Group plc – v – Yorkshire Water Limited
I was appointed by the Damager's Loss Adjusters to advise on quantum where two adjacent 132 kV underground transmission circuits suffered damage by displacement and erosion resulting from a burst water main. The parties agreed an out of Court settlement.
